Upcycled Creativity
Content That Tells a Story
As a designer and artist, I love pushing myself to think outside the box—and sometimes, that means starting with materials that already exist. This past holiday season, I challenged myself to create festive ornaments using only secondhand materials, proving that creativity isn’t about what you have—it’s about what you make of it.
The Process: Making Something From Nothing
I didn’t go into this with a set plan—just the goal of creating ornaments out of thrifted materials. That’s where the real creativity comes in.
At a thrift outlet, where items are sold by the pound, I searched through bins and found felt sheets and a floral jacket—unexpected, but perfect. Instead of seeing them as discarded materials, I saw texture, color, and potential.
I cut, shaped, and stitched each piece into unique ornaments, transforming forgotten textiles into something meaningful and handmade.
Bringing the Vision to Life: My Goodwill Project
During the holidays, I also collaborated with Goodwill to create a project that showcased how thrifted materials can be repurposed into beautiful, handmade gifts.
This project allowed me to highlight:
✔️ The power of upcycling in a creative way
✔️ The process of flipping thrifted items into handmade pieces
✔️ The value of storytelling through video content
Turning the Process Into Content:
As a creative, I don’t just make things—I tell stories. I created content, documenting this creative process, capturing:
✔️ The thrill and accessibility of finding materials through this business
✔️ DIY creative transformation the community can embrace at this business
✔️ Creative projects made possible with creativity and partnerships
The video resonated with people, reaching over 1,100 accounts, gaining 1.9K plays, and introducing this business to the community while highlighting my work to new audiences.
What This Says About My Work
This project was more than just a fun challenge—it represents how I approach creative work in general. Whether I’m designing, illustrating, or developing content, I thrive on:
• Resourcefulness – Finding creative solutions with what’s available
• Storytelling – Capturing the journey, not just the final result
• Engagement – Making content that connects with people
